About Maggie
How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?
I would say I’m a big communicator. I love to talk to my defense about what’s going on and what I see. I also like to stay positive and cheer on everyone who’s on the field. I play big in the cage, keeping a nice stance, and taking up the space. Before every game, I like to give myself a little pep talk in the cage to make sure I’m completely positive and not in my head.
Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?
In and out of the cage, I try to keep positive, making sure I don’t get in my head. Lacrosse is a very mental sport, especially when you’re a goalie. Staying positive and always looking on the bright side helps me keep my head in the game and stay confident.
Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?
I am involved in Best Buddies, which is a club focused around kids with special needs. I am also involved in a club called Conestoga Closets. In Conestoga Closets, we donate our old/unused clothes to people in need. The last club I am in is Hearts for the homeless. Where we donate items to the homeless, give out food, or write kind notes to help people keep going!
What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?
Through the game of lacrosse, I have developed leadership qualities by being the “quarterback” of the team. When being a goalie, you are the only person able to see the whole field, so it’s my job to make sure everyone knows if someone’s coming on them, if someone’s open, or if someone is needing help. I’ve learned to communicate better, and I’ve become better at working with everyone as a team.
Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.
I wouldn’t say I have faced very significant challenges, but in the cage I have to face the challenge of fighting off a negative attitude. Last year I started to get really angry after letting in a goal, causing me to get in my head and not save any goals. I then realized I couldn’t be in my head and have a bad attitude if I wanted to be a goalie.
What type of college are you looking for?
I am looking for a decently sized school(not too big not too small). I also am looking for a college not in a city. I’d like more of a real campus.
