Less than five minutes after Eagle Stix and West Forsyth High School teammate Bryce Birkholz announced her commitment to UNC, Luca Diehl made it an early morning Georgia sweep on Day Two of recruiting, announcing she would be headed to the University of Maryland just after 7:30 a.m. on the East Coast. Prep Girls Lacrosse’s No. 2 player in the class of 2028, Diehl hails from Cumming, Georgia, and is a true matchup nightmare with takeover ability and a two-way game that has drawn comparisons to Ally Mastroianni. The first Prep Girls Lacrosse five-star prospect off the board, there is no question Maryland is landing one of the nation’s best. Diehl will likely be earning meaningful playing time early in College Park.

While defenders naturally focus on her ability to score, what often gets overlooked is her outstanding passing ability. Diehl is an incredibly unselfish player who consistently delivers perfect feeds, making everyone around her better.

Transition is where she truly separates herself. She has the power to finish through contact or dish to an open teammate. She catches and finishes in tight spaces as well as anyone in the class, and her shot is both powerful and accurate.

If there was an overall tournament MVP award from this weekend, it would certainly belong to Luca Diehl. You would be hard-pressed to find anyone as dominant on the club circuit this summer. Carving through defenses and doing what she wants when she wants, Diehl was simply a step above anyone matched up against her this weekend. Had a goal called back on a questionable dangerous follow-through call, served her time in the penalty box, and came out two minutes later to put it right back on the board. If you need a goal, get the ball in her stick and give her a runway to work. Her height and strength make her look like a college player out there against high schoolers, and she projects as a future Big Ten or ACC player who will make an immediate impact.

Diehl can cook her defender 1v1. She absolutely shook her defender in their game against Mad Dog West Elite. Diehl had a really nice skip pass to an open cutter and got the assist. Her vision is really good. With how dominant she is when scoring and off the dodge, her ability to distribute the ball sometimes gets overlooked.

Diehl is a fantastic combination of agility and toughness. Her aggressive offensive play challenges her defenders to take her seriously and makes them regret it if they don’t. The Georgia native and teammate of Bryce Birkholz has already been turning heads as one of the top talents in her class and has been named the #2 recruit in her class by Prep Girls Lacrosse. Luca Diehl is a talented player who is going to be known in the sport for a long time.

A three-sport varsity athlete (volleyball, track and field, lacrosse), Diehl stands out immediately for her speed and explosiveness. She is insanely fast in transition and consistently pushes tempo in the open field.

Her dodging ability is dynamic and shifty, supported by strong footwork and elite athleticism. Diehl can generate a powerful shot, but she is just as dangerous creating for others when defenses collapse.

She reads slides well and quickly finds open teammates, making her effective as both a finisher and facilitator. Her ability to change direction at full speed and maintain control makes her especially difficult to contain.

She is one of the most physical players, let alone 2028’s, I have seen. She absorbs contact and, frankly, thrives on it. Even with defenders playing perfect 1v1 defense, if Diehl gets her arms free, she’s getting a shot off. While she hits fade-away shots from the top of the 8 like a pro, she can also lower her shoulder, crease roll, and bury the ball, all on the way to the ground. Diehl’s versatility sets her apart. She can dominate at the top of the 8, crash the crease, or shift to playmaking seamlessly. Her awareness drives smart decisions. She is a true two-way midfielder. Her draw ability is notable, and she knows how to turn possessions into goals. Opponents always account for her every move, a rare presence at any age. Her lateral directional change on offense is scary advanced. There is no question why she represented Team USA on the 2025 U.S. Girls’ U17 Youth National team.

Diehl secured the first goal of the game and immediately set the tone in the 20-1 win vs Bartram Trail (Fla.). Her vision was on display throughout the game. She can identify an opening and go straight at the goal. Opposing teams should be scared of her elite change of direction.

One of the most college-ready players in the Class of 2028. Diehl plays/looks like a college player, and she is just a sophomore in high school. She is very athletic, fast, and explosive. She can run both ways, making her the top midfielder in the Class. The Georgia native has a great frame and uses that to absorb contact and drive through the defense on her dodges. She can shoot and finish with both hands. Diehl is an impressive off-ball player and does a lot of damage moving around. The Eagle Stix product takes the draw and wins it to herself. She will be a good college player and has the potential to be the top player in the Class of 2028.
