Ashley Penn may be one of the smallest players on the field, but she plays with the confidence and impact of someone twice her size. Small but mighty, I like to say. She is an absolute firecracker who attacks with speed, purpose, and tremendous lacrosse IQ. Penn’s footwork allows her to create separation in tight spaces, and once she gets her hands free, her shot placement is exceptional. Time after time, she buried shots into the corners with impressive power and accuracy. Just as impressive is her decision-making, knowing exactly when to push the tempo in transition and when to settle the offense. She was outstanding all day, showing up in many different ways, whether it was at “X” or anywhere she found herself on the field. She consistently stood out throughout the Shake School Showcase, and if I were a college coach, she would be near the top of my recruiting list.

Working primarily from “X”, Penn is deceptive with her dodges and does not allow her defender to anticipate her move or direction. She works well with both hands and showed off a handful of impressive crease dodges into crafty finishes. All afternoon, Penn was able to explode from “X” and attack the crease with speed and footwork that defenders could not match.
