Layla Nick is everything you could ask for in a midfielder, and it is no wonder why Boston College signed her in the early days of the 2027 recruiting window. A high-motor, two-way workhorse, Nick goes all out for every ground ball and will sacrifice her body to get there. Such was the case when she leaped across the sideline and, in one motion, tossed the ball back in to a teammate — something straight out of a basketball game. She makes a lot of plays that only count as a singular tally on the stat sheet, but go a long way toward her team’s success. An explosive offensive playmaker as well, Nick is a heads-up, high-IQ off-ball player who can jump-start the offense and create opportunities without the ball. She timed a backdoor cut perfectly against USC on Monday, creating plenty of separation to get her shot off before her defender could recover and the goalie could set. Ready to rip the ball the moment she receives it.

Nick is your textbook do-it-all midfielder. She’s got the speed and agility to contribute at the highest level. Her stick skills are also impressive. She has the ability to play with both hands.  Layla’s competition also shows a lot in the draw circle. Her ability to box out and play with one hand on her stick makes her nearly automatic on the circle. Nick is undoubtedly one of the top midfielders in the class of 2027 and will continue to thrive at the next level as a defensive middie or two-way.
