Molly Spellman was named the 2029 goalie MVP at the 2026 Kane Rize. Spellman’s release is so pure when she is clearing the ball. She tracks the ball exceptionally well. The Darien (Conn.) native saves shots on the doorstep. She drops low to the ground quickly to make big-time saves. This is a player everyone was talking about at the Rize.

Speaking of big-name prospects who lived up to the hype, Connecticut’s Molly Spellman was nothing short of sensational in my first live look at her Monday. Named MVP of the 2029 goalies, Spellman made difficult saves look effortless throughout the event. She gets low to take away shots along the ground and plays tall to challenge attackers driving toward the cage. Spellman tracks the ball well and moves economically in her crease, rarely wasting motion as she gets into position. She also has the range and reflexes to extend a leg for kick saves on shots just beyond her reach. Spellman was nearly unbeatable in net. Beyond her shot-stopping, she was one of the most vocal goalkeepers on the field, constantly communicating to keep the defense organized. Spellman was as advertised.

Molly Spellman had an incredible showing at the Rize. She was not only the backbone of her defense, but also her entire team. She is a vocal leader, seen giving direction to teammates. She is by far one of the most consistent goalies in the Class of 2029. Goals scored on her were few and far between. Spellman was also confident in her quick clears, allowing the offense to get better downfield position before the opposing team could transition. She will be one with a lot of eyes on her going into the summer.

The lefty from Darien, Connecticut, has cemented herself as one of the class’s top netminders. Spellman plays with an unshakable confidence, calm and collected between the pipes. She sees the ball well out of the stick and has the quick hands to alter any shot. She plays with a wide stance that does not sacrifice vertical ability but allows her to get her hands low in a hurry to stop bouncers and wormburners. She stays squared to shooters at all times and does a nice job of using her taller frame to step up and meet driving attackers. She gets a lot of deflections off her stick and body, and even when she does not get a clean save on the first attempt, she stays with the play through extended offensive sets.
