PAISAA Championship: Episcopal Academy’s Offensive Weapons

Episcopal Academy (Pa.) may have fallen short in the PAISAA Championship, but its offensive depth and Division I talent were impossible to ignore. Episcopal battled back, keeping itself within striking distance against one of the nation's top programs. Johnston stood out on the draw circle and consistently used her height to become visible through traffic, allowing her to catch and finish under pressure. Defensively, she forced errors and disrupted opponents with active play, while also excelling in clears and transition opportunities. Once she secured possession off the draw, she immediately looked to push the pace and find the open teammate streaking downfield. Her ability to recognize openings and slip into the right space at the right time consistently created offensive opportunities. The Maryland commit recently stood out during the championship with her explosive dodging ability. The speedy midfielder is relentless in the ride and never gives up on a play. Her sharp, quick dodges allowed her to create opportunities throughout the game, while her strength on the draw circle continued to shine. Gagliardi also impressed defensively, reading passing lanes well and knowing exactly when to jump an interception before taking off between the 30s in transition.     The Penn commit wasted no time making an impact, delivering a great feed that helped put her team on the board within seconds of the championship game. The speedy midfielder plays shifty with a strong lacrosse IQ that consistently puts her in the right spots offensively. Her sidearm shot stands out, along with her ability to catch and finish under pressure. Maya is clearly a player Episcopal looks to heavily on the offensive end, as her quickness and awareness create opportunities all over the field.     The sophomore attacker stood out as a force around the crease. Whether holding space at X, feeding the open teammate, or attacking around the cage, she constantly creates chaos for opposing defenders. Stankewicz also shows impressive creativity offensively, capitalizing on unique finishes and trick shot style opportunities. Her ability to use both hands as an attacker alongside her vision makes her one of the more exciting young offensive players to watch.     Episcopal Academy sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='70541' first='Maeve' last='Irish'] is already one of the top young names in Pennsylvania girls lacrosse. The lefty attacker is speedy, shifty, and dangerous the second the ball gets in her stick. Even while being heavily defended and face guarded, Irish continued to attack with confidence, using her elite stick protection, quick spin move, and high energy style to create chances. She can rip from distance, finish inside, and place her shots with precision. Irish plays with one goal in mind: to score, but when the slide comes, she has the vision to move the ball and set her teammates up. She is a true matchup nightmare and a human highlight reel.
