Traveling from Bronxville, New York, to attend Saturday’s showcase, Ariana Bala established herself as one of the event’s top defenders. Bala was particularly effective as a help defender, consistently delivering well-timed slides and doubles to take away driving lanes whenever a teammate was beaten to the cage. Her lateral quickness was evident in her 5-10-5 results, where she ranked fifth among all participants. She can quickly leave her assignment to provide support, whether on the initial slide or as the play develops through subsequent slides. A true defensive disruptor, Bala did an excellent job controlling the pace of play and limiting quick offensive possessions in the 6v6 format. She also excelled in transition, moving the ball effectively and helping initiate the offense. She has the athletic profile and skill to compete at a high-level Division I program and should draw considerable attention from college coaches.
