Rankings Criteria

Preparation and Editorial Oversight

  • Comprehensive Roster Information
  • Broad Coverage Commitment
  • Strategic Coverage Planning
  • Comprehensive Roster Information: Our scouts are equipped with roster packets before the event to ensure they have the name, height, and school of every player in attendance. It is paramount for programs and teams to enter their rosters before the event so our scouts know who they’re watching.

  • Broad Coverage Commitment: Our scouts are encouraged to watch as many different teams and players as possible, regardless of level. A Division III-level prospect gets the same coverage as a Division I talent.

  • Strategic Coverage Planning: While we cannot realistically cover every single player, our coverage is strategically planned to ensure as many courts and facilities as possible have our scouts’ eyes on them throughout the event.
Rankings Criteria

Post-Event Coverage and Social Media Engagement

  • Player Headshots
  • Event Recap Articles
  • Real-Time Social Media Updates
  • Post-Event Review
  • Player Headshots: Scouts take quick headshots of evaluated players for use in social media graphics and articles.

  • Event Recap Articles: Each scout writes at least three articles from the event, analyzing athletes that caught their attention. There is freedom and creativity exercised in these articles —they may categorize prospects by position, graduating class, or other measurable qualifiers.

  • Real-Time Social Media Updates: Scouts actively use social media during the event in order to call attention to standout performers in real-time. Follow our website’s and scouts’ accounts to stay updated.

  • Post-Event Review: We also encourage scouts to go back after the event and watch any teams they didn’t get to see on BallerTV, the streaming partner at our events.
Rankings Criteria

Objectivity and Integrity in Reporting

  • Independent Judgment
  • Unbiased Coverage
  • Note-Taking
  • Coverage for All Levels
  • You Cannot Pay for Coverage
  • Crossing State Lines
  • Independent Judgment: Scouts make their own decisions about who to include in coverage. We may assign them to a general age level (e.g., 17U, 16U), but our scouts are not assigned to watch specific prospects or programs.

  • Unbiased Coverage: We do not employ scouts with known biases toward or against certain players or programs. Our goal is to cover players based on merit alone.

  • Note-Taking: Scouts are balancing social media activity with note-taking, which is to say that they cannot tweet out every single highlight.

  • Coverage for All Levels: A Division III-level prospect gets the same coverage as a Division I talent. This does not mean we can cover every single player at the event. Our coverage is strategically planned to make sure our scouts are present at as many courts and facilities as possible, without attention paid to the level of prospect present.

  • You Cannot Pay for Coverage: Buying a subscription to our website does not ensure preferential treatment from our scouts, nor is there any financial mechanism to ensure coverage.

  • Crossing State Lines: If your athlete is traveling across state lines to participate in a Prep Network event, be assured all paywalled articles on your home state’s website and will be viewable with a Prep Girls Lacrosse subscription.
