WEST CHESTER, Pa. — The 14th annual Summer Slam Lacrosse Tournament, hosted by Victory Event Series, was held this weekend, June 27-28, at West Chester University. Eleven different clubs from the 2028 classification took the field in what was a rainy Pennsylvania weekend, but that certainly did not slow down the action. Justin Staggers with Prep Girls Lacrosse was on site all weekend. Here is the second batch of 2028 standouts.

One of the best defenders from this weekend's action in West Chester, Hannah Mullen is a strong, physical defender who holds her own against even the quickest and shiftiest of attackers and midfielders. She does not allow shooters to square their hips and get off high-percentage looks at the cage moving laterally — her strength allows her to drive players away from critical scoring areas before they can get set. She also displayed the ability to hedge and bait opposing players into bad passes or contested shots. Mullen worked at midfield this weekend as well, showcasing a strong ability to initiate and feed open shooters in the offensive set. It will be interesting to see whether she sticks solely to defense in college or takes on a defensive midfielder role.

Alexandra Zrowka had a strong weekend on both ends of the field for her Yellow Jackets North club. She displayed an unwavering brand of physical defense on the ride, including one play where she rode her assignment up the left sideline for nearly 40 yards before poking the ball free and taking it the other way. She does an excellent job of using the sideline as an extra defender, and she is a player who brings her feet to the party on the ride — you will not see Zrowka throwing wild checks because she has the footwork to stay engaged and pick her spots wisely. Her offensive game was just as exciting. Zrowka's mind is made up before she even receives the feed, and she displayed the ability to fire off a shot in the same motion as the catch — a quick-release that gives goalies almost no time to set.

Playing up with the 2027s this weekend, Athena Arguello had an impressive showing on both ends of the field. From Brooklyn, Arguello plays with a New York toughness — she does not shy away from contact or an all-out battle for a ground ball. She did just that in one of her games, using an active stick and smart body positioning on the ride to poke the ball free before taking it back for the unassisted goal. Arguello works primarily from the “X” in the offensive set and is a strong feeder from behind GLE, consistently hitting cutters in stride from all areas of the field. She had a handful of high-level assists in a single half on Sunday.

Mia Bentrewicz is a strong, physical midfielder from Smithtown, New York, who displayed the ability to affect the game on both ends of the field this weekend. She showcased a high-level ability to shut down the transition game at midfield with a relentless effort on the ride, using her stick selectively and aggressively to force key turnovers for her Shore 2 Shore club. She has the speed to take off and burn her assignment in transition once she comes up with the ball. Bentrewicz showed this weekend that she has the tools to be an effective two-way player at the next level.

College coaches should keep this name close as September approaches. A high-level lefty goalkeeper, Lorenz impressed all weekend with strong play between the pipes. She did an excellent job stepping up at the crease to meet driving players and cut off their angle before they could get a shot off. Her clears are not only accurate but long, consistently starting fast break opportunities with numbers for her offense.
