2028 Midfielders: Standouts of the Summer

The Class of 2028 continues to show just how much talent it has in the midfield. Throughout the summer, these midfielders separated themselves with their ability to impact the game all over the field. Her offensive awareness immediately stands out, especially with her timing around the cage. She is a great catch-and-finish player who gets the ball out of her stick quickly and knows exactly when to make her move. When Tremarco catches the ball inside the 8-meter, she attacks at full speed and can blow right by the defense with her quickness and change of direction.   Her impact goes well beyond scoring. Tremarco is excellent on the draw circle, where her speed and anticipation allow her to come away with loose balls and immediately push transition. She rides hard, picks off passes defensively, and has a great feel for turning defense into offense. Whether she is creating for herself or finding a teammate in transition, Tremarco's IQ and versatility make her a dangerous presence all over the field.     Walters is a tall, athletic two-way midfielder who uses her size extremely well without relying on it. She is deceptive with the ball and incredibly persistent as a dodger. Walters will spin back, reset, and attack again until she creates the separation she wants. Her stick protection makes her even tougher to defend because she keeps her cradle high and away from pressure, making it difficult for defenders to get anywhere near her stick.   She is comfortable finishing with either hand and has the vision to recognize when a defense is loading up on her and safely move the ball to an open teammate. Walters is also a major presence on the draw and circle. She attacks balls out of the air at full speed and uses her height and athleticism to her advantage. Add in strong 1v1 defense, great clears, speed, and a high lacrosse IQ, and Walters has all the tools of a complete two-way midfielder.     Picarde is a smooth, well-rounded midfielder who can be trusted to make an impact in every area of the field. Her speed and field awareness keep her heavily involved in transition and throughout possessions, and she always seems to put herself in the right place to make a play. Offensively, she is a strong catch-and-finish player who can finish through traffic with great shot placement. Inside the 8-meter, her stick protection allows her to handle pressure and still get to her spots.   What stands out about Picarde is how composed and unselfish she plays. She has a great IQ, moves the ball when the opportunity is there, and does not force plays that are not open. Her stick skills, speed, determination, and ability to contribute all over the field make her a trusted presence in the midfield.     McDonough is a ground ball machine who brings nonstop hustle to the midfield. She attacks loose balls aggressively and has the speed and long strides to immediately turn a possession into transition. Her height is a huge advantage on the draw, where she can create possessions and consistently make her presence felt in the circle.   Offensively, McDonough has plenty of ways to hurt a defense. She makes excellent cuts, finishes quickly off the catch, and can rip shots from both inside the 8-meter and farther out. Her dodging ability gives her another way to create offense rather than waiting for opportunities to come to her. Between her draw work, transition speed, finishing ability, and effort on ground balls, McDonough is the type of midfielder who can change a game in several different ways.     Kibalo is a well-rounded midfielder who brings speed, hustle, and toughness to every part of the field. She is especially impressive on the draw, with excellent placement and the ability to win the ball herself. Once Kibalo comes away with a draw control or ground ball, she is off to the races. She pushes the pace immediately and rarely gives the defense time to recover.   That same motor shows up on the defensive end and on the ride. Kibalo uses strong body positioning, competes hard for loose balls, and stays involved until the possession is finished. She can help create the initial possession, carry it through transition, and then contribute on either end of the field. Her draw ability, defensive effort, speed, and overall versatility make her a complete midfield presence.
